Fabulous evening last night at the Cinema Museum. Huge thanks to Chris and the team for organising such a brilliant, spooky, fun event. Great to be able to come together and celebrate all the talent on show in Twisted volume 2 and Singularity50.

I just wanted to say what a huge thrill it was to be invited to the Create 50 Twisted 2 / Singularity Awards at the Cinema Museum, London where so many writers works were celebrated. It is a privilege to be recognised for something for which, certainly speaking for myself, when writing my piece, recognition was not on my mind, but was simply trying to serve the story. To then discover that other people have connected with the story and the emotional impact of what you have written is the best reward anyone can receive, to then have that elevated to recognition by your peers is exceptional. Thanks again for a marvellous night where old friends were reconnected and new ones discovered.

What a GREAT evening... watch out for the photos tomorrow.

Two faceless figures in full bio-hazard gear handing out latex gloves before we’d even entered the Cinema Museum for the Twisted 2/Singularity Awards Ceremony? Chris Jones and his team had set a high bar for the Twisted 1 Awards in 2017, yet vaulted that bar clean and clear this time around. Very creepy and plenty of jump-scares! And the sheer energy and power of the exorcist priest and the possessed woman! I loved it all! Who else but Create 50 would round it off with a gore-stained bride? And obviously, because I never listen (I’d last the first ten seconds of a nascent dystopia) I’d omitted to heed the warning to put on gloves and not touch anything, so got a fistful of blood when I shook the bride’s hand. (As it turned out, I didn’t need all the perfumes of Araby to try and sweeten my own little hand.)

A brilliant, brilliant evening. A chance to meet fellow contributors familiar and new, and everyone who makes These Things Happen. A well-paced Awards presentation, excellent speeches charged with enthusiasm, and plenty of opportunities for red-carpet photographs. The whole event was galvanised, and crackled and sparked.

On a personal note, I’m still absurdly pleased with myself for receiving an award for Best Character in Twisted 2 and a little humbled too, as there are so many great characters in both books. It was all such a long way from staring at a computer screen wondering how I might elevate a story from ‘Bloody Awful’ to ‘Still Bloody Awful’…

Thanks to everyone who made it happen and to everyone who participated in both opportunities. And especial credit to those who are building upon their (perhaps) first steps into fiction writing because they were seized and inspired by Create 50.

    Loved it.

(PS: I refer to the vague and nebulous ‘team’ – it would be so good to see a credit list of everyone involved.)

Thank you to Chris and the team for their tireless work on this brilliant project.

Couldn't make it to the awards but congratulations to everyone! And double-congratulations to the winners of the individual awards!
